This has reference to the news item ‘JU introduces transparency in evaluation of answer scripts’ Feb 20.
The initiative with regard to transparency in evaluation system will go a long way in making examinations credible. Since there was no mechanism in place to know whether marking has been done fairly or unfairly, students had to go with it.
The J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) has introduced this system some two or three years back. Since then students get a chance to know their performance in the examinations. At times they have encountered several glaring mistakes on part of the evaluators. The evaluators have been found quite negligent or callous. Instances of shoddy marking too have come to surfaces. By providing a chance to students, many careers have been saved. Even in some cases, re-evaluation has catapulted them to the top of the merit list.
Similarly, the introduction of new evaluation mechanism will help students know their weak and strong points. Besides, it will clear air of unfair or shoddy marking.
