Lakhs of children administered pulse polio drops across J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Lakhs of children were administered pulse polio drops during the second round of campaign across the State today.
Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan launched the Pulse Polio Campaign by administering polio drops to the children in the premises of District Hospital Udhampur.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that with the constant and sincere efforts of the functionaries of Health Department and massive support of the society, no fresh polio case has been reported from any part of the State during the past couple of years. However, he stressed the need for maintaining constant vigil on the situation and covering cent per cent children by administering pulse polio drops in every round of campaign.
On the occasion, Legislators, Balwant Singh Mankotia and Krishan Chander Bhagat put forth various demands pertaining to Health Department which mainly include creation of additional post of doctors and paramedics in District Hospital Udhampur, purchase of Critical Care Ambulances and their placement at accident prone areas and provision of additional ambulance at Sub District Hospital Chenani.
Giving details about the arrangements for the 2nd round of the campaign, Director Family Welfare, Dr Kuldeep Kesar informed that during the three days campaign, over 19 lakh children will be administered the polio drops in the State.
For this over 11000 booths have been set up with 45000 booth workers. To make the campaign a success and for hundred percent coverage, the department has pressed into service over 276 transit team workers, 274 mobile team workers and 2400 Supervisors. For the purpose the Government has made available over 25 lakh vaccines.
As many as 10,40,692 children were administered polio drops at 5716 booths set up in the Valley. The Health Department has deployed 109 transit teams and 86 mobile teams in the Valley besides 22,794 workers and 1197 supervisors for the successful implementation of campaign.
At Srinagar, the Pulse Polio campaign was launched early in the morning at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital, Rainawari (JLNM) by State Immunization Officer. The Director, Social Welfare, Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Bhat administered polio drops to an infant at Srinagar.
At Baramulla, 14,552 children of the age group of 0-5 years administered Pulse Polio drops for which 734 Pulse Polio Centres have been set up. At Kupwara 1,34,414 children were administered Pulse Polio Immunization drops while as at Pulwama 64,723 children were administered drops.
A total of 51,512 children were administered polio drops at Shopian, 58,870 at Bandipora, 44932 at Ganderbal, 1,40,082 and 91546 at Anantnag and Kulgam.
Pulse Polio campaign were also organized at Ladakh. A total of 16,445 and 12,280 children respectively were administered drops in Leh and Kargil districts.
