JAMMU, May 9: A diabetes awareness camp was organized by Bhagavaan Gopinathji Medical Mission a unit of Bhagavaan Gopianthji Trust in its Ashram Complex Udaywala Bohri  near here today.
Dr Jitendra Singh a renowned Diabetologist and Author was the Chief Guest  on the occasion who along with a team of doctors examined the patients. The other specialists included Dr Pankaj Gupta, Ophthalmology, Dr Roshan Saraf, Physician,   Dr Sandeep Dhar Physiotherapist. The patients were given free medical consultation and medicines. The tests were conducted by Mr Narinder.
Talking to media persons at the sidelights of the camp, Dr Jitendra Singh said over 15 percent of Jammu population is suffering from Diabetes while an equal number of them are either undetected diabetics or pre-diabetics. Similarly near seven percent of young pregnant women in Jammu develop diabetes for the first time during pregnancy, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that while the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community had been the worst victim of diabetes upsurge in Jammu during last two decades, another worrisome factor was increasing number of youngsters falling prey to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus which calls for greater caution.
Prominent “Gopinath Trust” members present on the occasion included Dr M K Sapru, Prof O N Chrangoo, Shadilal Ganju, S K Turkee, J L Malla, Mohan Krishan Tickoo, Sushil Watal, Tej Krishan Raina, Ashok Razdan, Opinder Bhat and Suman Watal.
