Minibus operators suspend operations to resent GPS in vehicles

UDHAMPUR, May 30: All the minibus operators in Udhampur today suspend their operation and protested against the Transport Department’s direction for installing GPS tracking device on their vehicles.
Call for suspending the service was given by Udhampur Minibus Operators Union. The agitating operators also held a protest demonstration.

While addressing the gathering of protesting minibus operators, the Union president criticizing Government for making GPS installation compulsory to get fitness certificate of the vehicle. He pointed out that for GPS, a control room is also required for the concerned department but the same was not yet established whereas the vehicle operators are being denied fitness certificate for want of GPS.
He stressed that the operators were also worried about the inconvenience caused to the general public, especially the aged and school going student, because of the strike but they had no other option to highlight their grievance.
