Mines explode due to forest fire

POONCH, May 31: Dozens of explosions of land mines along the Line of Control after forest fire in Balakote area created scare among the villagers of the area today.
Official sources said that heavy forest fire amid land mine explosions has gripped areas along Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sub sector of Mendhar Sub Division.
Sources said the fire which started from other side of the LoC last evening has spread on this side of the fence. They said that it has engulfed a large area of Langiote and Balakote Forward and some other areas adjoining areas.
The Army authorities have sounded an alert while Forest department staff has also cautioned the villagers living near the LoC. The fire has caused little damage to the fence and some other infrastructure, sources said.
