NEW DELHI, June 2 : Anup Jalota, renowned singer and musician, also known as “Bhajan Samrat” because of his expertise in singing devotional songs, called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, here today.
Besides congratulating Dr Jitendra Singh for assuming ministerial office for the second consecutive term, Anup Jalota also discussed the national level “Anti-Tobacco” campaign initiated by him. He informed the Minister that the campaign was formally launched by him and his team with a ceremonial function at Constitution Club in the union capital.
Jalota said, he was inspired to embark on this campaign, when he learnt there there are at least 12 crore smokers and tobacco chewers in India, and there are an equal number who are passive smokers for no fault of theirs. Half of them, he said, were at the risk of developing lung cancer, which could be prevented through proper awareness and motivation.
Anup Jalota also informed the Minister about his new music Album based on national and patriotic songs, which will be ready soon. He said, he would like the Album to be released in a befitting manner.
Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated Jalota for leading the anti-tobacco campaign and said, whenever a celebrity undertakes a social awareness crusade, it certainly carries a wider impact and appeal among the masses. He hoped that Jalota will also contemplate producing musical jingles to supplement the reach of his campaign.
