NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation today reviewed progress of Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) with nodal secretaries of states and union territories.
“The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation here today organised the 16th All India Review Meeting on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) with nodal secretaries of states/UTs to review the progress of implementation of the scheme,” an official statement said.
The meeting was attended by principal secretaries/ secretaries of the states or union territories as well as district collectors/district magistrates of selected districts.
In August 2012, the Government had issued new guidelines to govern MPLAD schemes as concerns were expressed by the stakeholders, including Members of Parliament.
The new guidelines include various new initiatives, setting up of MPLADS Facilitation Centre at each district, convergence of MPLADS funds with Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The Ministry has also allowed convergence of funds from MPLAD Scheme with MGNREGA with stipulation that as far as possible the MPLADS funds shall be used in respect of material component only, the statement said.
The Ministry recently raised limit of Rs 25 lakh for a trust/society in its life time to Rs 50 lakh and the limit of Rs 50 lakh that an MP can recommend in a financial year for works belonging to trust/society to Rs 1 crore.
Further, district and state authorities were asked to furnish complete Action Taken Report in respect of the outstanding paras of the C&AG Performance Audit Report on MPLAD Scheme 2010-11, the statement said.
They were also requested to take steps to sanction recommended eligible works up to full annual entitlement of MPs without waiting for physical availability of funds in order to speed up the utilisation, it added further. (AGENCIES)
