DC reviews flood preparedness

JAMMU June 6: Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today chaired a meeting with senior officers of the line departments to discuss the preparedness to deal with flood related situation in view of ensuing monsoon season.
Senior functionaries of JMC, PDD, PHE, Disaster Management and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
The DC asked the officers to formulate an affective flood management plans to meet any eventuality. He directed the engineers to focus on the vulnerable spots, anticipated areas on the experience of last year’s so that rapid action is ensured to plug such gaps. He also directed for cleaning of main drains and Nullahs in the city to prevent water loggings during monsoon.
He also directed for establishing Control Rooms at district, tehsil and block level to respond the situations.
DC directed the concerned officers to keep their men and machinery ready with tents, boats, sand bags, life jackets and other rescue equipments. He asked them to make available the dewatering pumps at vulnerable locations as precautionary measures.
He further directed to take immediate action to fill up any identified additional gaps to avert/ tackle arising incidents during heavy rainfall and flood like situation in future. He called for maintaining close coordination among different departments and agencies to safeguard precious lives in case of any eventuality during the rainy season.
He urged the Director Health Services to ensure sufficient medicine stock available in the district to meet any emergency.
PDD was asked to take measures for preventing power supply disruption and keep alternate power lines ready in case of failure of main Line.
The officers briefed the DC about the preparations being made by district administration in their respective areas.
