JAMMU, June 6: J&K unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has said that recent decision of reconstitution of OBC Development Board by J&K Government has no significance till implementation of Mandal Commission report for 27 per cent reservation to OBCs is done.
In a handout Charanjeet Chargotra, State BSP leader said there has been clear directive from Supreme Court since 1993 that States should grant reservation to OBCs in proportion to their population.
“Since population of State OBCs is 32 per cent in J&K (Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs), they should be granted 27 per cent quota,” he maintained.
He claimed that as per directives of Supreme Court, after implementation of Mandal Commission report, reports of all previous Commissions and Committees should become null and void.
“But J&K Government is continuing with A.S Anand Committee Report of 1978 and is granting 2 per cent reservation to OBCs,” he further said and appealed to the Governor to address the issue of OBC reservation.
