Srinagar, June 8: Medical Council of India (MCI) has given newly created Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag a go-ahead for starting the academic session of 2019-20 of MBBS courses after the inspection conducted last month.
The authorities at the GMC Anantnag have been provided with a Letter of Permission (LOP) from the MCI for starting the batch of 100 MBBS students after the MCI conducted the inspection of the college including another one coming up in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
Principal, GMC Anantnag Dr Showkat A Jeelani told Excelsior that the LOP has been given to the college for starting the batch of 100 students after the experts expressed their satisfaction regarding the inspection that was conducted last month.
“After careful consideration of the scheme and taking into consideration the compliance verification assessment report along with the summary/ observations of the member of the undergraduate expert group appointed by the board of Governors and an undertaking of the principal secretary health and medical education…the board of governors has come to conclusion that a letter may be issued for obtaining certain essential documents in connection with issuance of letter of permission (LOP) for establishment of new Medical College at Anantnag, J&K with annual intake of 100 students,” the letter reads.
Earlier, another upcoming GMC in Baramulla was also provided with the LOP for starting its functioning with the batch of 100 students for MBBS.
