Srinagar, June 9: The Wakf Board will de-seal the four branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank and Life Insurance Corporation office, operating from their properties located in different parts of Kashmir, that they sealed yesterday for failing to pay long pending arrears.
Vice Chairman of Wakf Board GR Sufi told Excelsior that bank branches will be de-sealed tomorrow after the Bank assured them that they will clear the arrears. He said that J&K Bank Branch Kralyar New Market Anantnag, J&K Bank Branch Rupa Reshi Habba Kadal, J&K Bank Branch Aishmuqam and J&K Bank Branch Newa Pulwama and LIC office Sonwar were sealed yesterday for failing to pay the arrears that were pending for last several years.
Sufi said that the sealing of the bank branches has nothing to do with removal of Chairman and Anti Corruption Bureau raids that were conducted yesterday and today. He said that Wakf was for last six months asking the Bank to clear the arrears. “We have shot several notices to bank for clearance of arrears but they failed to clear arrears,” he said.
The Vice Chairman of Wakf Board said that as per the Act they can seal any property if the tenant fails to pay the rent on time or can expel them as well. He said that he went personally to Anantnag to ask the Bank Branch to pay the arrears last month. He said that they were going to seal these properties last week only but it could have caused inconvenience to people on the occasion of Eid.
The J&K Bank Branch Kralyar New Market Anantnag owes Rs 32,49,719, J&K Bank Branch Rupa Reshi Habba Kadal Rs 13,44,455, J&K Bank Branch Aishmuqam Rs 7,70,427, and J&K Bank Branch Newa Pulwama Rs 40,00,000. The LIC branch at Sonwar owes Rs 56,49,870 to the Wakf.
