SRINAGAR, June 10: Notwithstanding the claims of the Government to improve rural road connectivity, an unpaved approach road leads to inconvenience to the residents of Tangwari village in North Kashmir Bandipora district.
Despite tall promises made by the Government to build the one-kilometer road from Kehnoosa to Tangwari, no concrete effort has been made by authorities to solve the problem and the daily commute of residents’ continue to be perilous on this one-lane dirt road.
The locals showed strong resentment against PMGSY for failing to complete the project on the stipulated time. “Two years have passed but there is no progress on road due to stubborn attitude of PMGSY officials,” Qazi Mudasir, a local said.
The residents, however, explained that a dispute over the compensation between orchardists and the Government has equally dented the project. “We provided land through our orchards to PMGSY for the construction of road but did not receive any compensation, that is why people who provided land have halted work,” locals said.
He added that the authorities are denying the compensation despite receiving an amount of around Rs 1.4 crores for the project, ” I am at loss to understand that a whopping amount of 1.4 crores of rupees has been sanctioned for just 1km of the road but compensation is being denied to affected families,” another local said.
The people living in Tangwari with a population of around 350 people, already lack better road connectivity and delay in this road cause severe hardships to them especially during winters.
