Jat Sabha delegation calls on Div Com, submits memorandum

JAMMU, June 14: A delegation of All J&K Jat Sabha led by Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch. Vikram Randhawa and MLC Surinder Choudhary today called on Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma and submitted a memorandum pertaining to the issues of the Jat community. The memorandum was addressed to Governor of the State Satya Pal Malik .
The memorandum, while highlighting demands read that All J&K Jat Sabha is fighting since long for grant of reservation under Other Backward Class (OBC) and as the Government has established Commission for Backward Classes which has been entrusted with the job to submit a detailed report for inclusion of the community in OBC but the process initiated by the Commission is going on at snail’s pace. Hence, the members of the All J&K Jat Sabha demanded intervention of the Governor so that the process may expedited and the community may get the benefits of reservation.
The Jat Sabha further demanded that as the Government of India has announced onetime package for the settlement of the displaced persons in Jammu and Kashmir and thousands of families from Jat community fall under this category. So it requested the Governor to direct the authorities to expedite the process for early redressal so that the members of the community may get the first instalment announced under the scheme.
The Jat community also welcomed the decision of the Government to announce 3% reservation to the people living along the International Border (IB) and further appealed to enhance it to 6% so that more people may get the benefit of this reservation.
