Mixed response pours in for Jammu-Poonch rail link

JAMMU, Feb 27: Mixed response poured in for the Central Government decision of connecting Jammu with Poonch through rail link by various organizations.
Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for the Welfare and Development of Other Backward Classes Kuldeep Raj Verma welcomed the decision for sanctioning a new railway line from Jammu to Poonch via Akhnoor. Verma said that the decision would provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youths and also to the labourers living Below Poverty Line (BPL).
Block Congress Committee, Akhnoor held a meeting under the chairmanship of Baldev Raj Sharma and hailed the decision of the Central Government to link district Poonch with Jammu via Akhnoor through rail link. Sharma said that the rail link would surely boost the economy of various remote areas.
Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has welcomed the announcement of several new schemes for providing rail links to new areas of the State including Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch rail link. He stressed that these decision should be taken for execution in a time bound manner. Prof Gupta also stressed for completion of pending work on various schemes.
Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA) president Showkat Chowdhary in a statement said that the rail budget presented in the Parliament has nothing for J&K. KHARA said that Government of India has not considered their suggestions vis-à-vis the tourism sector in Valley. We had suggested many things to the Government in railways for the promotion of tourism sector but all were ignored,” he added.
