UDHAMPUR, Feb 27: Expressing concern over the recent hike in rents of shops of Municipal Council Udhampur by District Development Commissioner, Goal Market Dabbar Chowk Shopkeepers Association today demanded the Government to sort out the issue permanently by giving them ownership rights of the said structure including land.
Addressing a press conference, the Association members said that the DDC in its Order No DDCU/83/12-13/9280-9451 dated October 31, 2012, revised the rent of shops allotted to the people with immediate effect, without any consultations with the tenants, which forced them to approach the concerned tribunal at Jammu for justice bearing heavy expenditure for legal remedies.
On February 20, 2013, the tribunal quashed the order of Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Udhampur, the speakers said.
The Association demanded that the shop holders be provided ownership rights of the shops including land under their possession against nominal premium.
Those who present in the conference were Anil Arora, Suraj Parkash, Kamal Kishore, Arun Gupta and many others.
