Traders booked for overcharging

JAMMU, Feb 27: On the directions of Minister for CAPD & Transport Ch Mohd Ramzan, a team of officers of Legal Metrology led by Joint Controller Amar Singh and Deputy Controller Manoj Prabhakar conducted extensive inspection in the area of Residency Road, Rajender Bazar, Raghunath Bazar & Bus Stand area. More than 30 traders dealing with eatables, provisional stores, dry fruits, and other milk products were inspected. Three traders were booked by inspector pooja for violations of different provisions of Weights & Measures Act.
M/s Manik Agencies was booked for selling muraba to the consumers with marked weight of 1 kg, but on actual weighment the pkd was found to be of 540g. All the deceptive packages were seized.The team also directed the traders to charge for eatables as per the rate fixed by the authorities.
The department also booked M/s Sharma Enterprises for deceving consumer by supplying un verified electronic weighings machines to the traders and that too without having any valid licence from the deptt. All the 8 machines along with bill books were seized.
In another redressal of complaint of consumer the deptt booked M/s Himalaya Stores, Raghunath Bazar for overcharging Rs 300 on medicine. According to the complainant,the Medicine Orthozen was purchased with marked price of Rs 1295 but inside the label the company has offered certain discount & reduced the price to Rs 955.The trader removed the offered sticker and deceived the consumer by over charging . Accordingly the trader was booked and asked to furnish purchase bills of the commodity.
