Renowned singer Vijay Malla passes away

JAMMU, May 9: Renowned singer of “Darshan Dukh Chalay Tribawan Lalay Pamposh Malay Traveh Nael’’ and “Har Mokh Bar Tal’’ fame Vijay Malla breathed his last this afternoon after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 57.
His cremation will take place at Bantalab Cremation Ground tomorrow afternoon.
Hailing from Mallapura Gadoobagh, Habbakadal, Malla came to prominence as a singer from his school days as singing was his family trait.
He is survived by his wife and two children. Malla, who was a house hold name in Kashmir besides singing umpteen Urdu Ghazals, had sung Kashmiri Leelas and Bhajans.
He was also Music Director for Maa Sheranwali a Bhajan production of Song and Drama Division, which Mr Malla had joined in year 1982. His thousands of magical song numbers made him a heartthrob of many of his fans especially in Kashmir Valley.
He spent years in Mumbai and gave a splendid musical tribute titled Jus-ta Ju. On his return he continued to work with Song and Drama Division. Vijay Malla was an institution and a lighthouse of subtle musical nuances that he used to decorate his songs with. All this was natural to him.
His musical journey started from 70s and he was Pt. Vish Pran Dhar’s gift to Kashmiri community and over the years the people of State enjoyed his bewitching music, the voice that had magic in it.
He was also connected with Rangmanch Theatre.
His death has come as a shock to his fans all over the country and as the news of Mr Mallah’s death spread here hundreds of his fans rushed to his residence to express their grief and shock.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister of Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah have expressed their profound grief and shock over the demise of Mr Malla. They described Mr Malla a great singer and expressed their sympathies with bereaved family.
The organizations of artists including Athwas Foundation led by Bihari Kak, Pir Panchal and others have also expressed their shock and grief over demise of Mr Malla.
