SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Field executives of Legal Metrology Department today conducted surprise inspection of several markets of the Srinagar city and booked many erring traders for violating Packaged Commodities Rules/Weights and Measures Laws.
A spokesman of the department said that the markets of Batmaloo, Bonpora and Bemina were inspected by the executives under the supervision of Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology. The spokesman said that about a dozen poultry and vegetable sellers were booked for using fraudulent/non-standard weights and scales.
“In another instance a whole sale dealer of flour was booked for offering for sale the wheat bran in non-standard units of 17 kilograms. Under Packaged Commodities Rules, every pre-packed commodity of some specific commodities must be packed in standard sizes and in case of bran it should be in multiples of 5 kilogram. The wheat-bran bags were also without the mandatory declarations of MRP/Date of Packing,” said the spokesman.
