Jakhani villagers protest for drinking water

UDHAMPUR, June 24: Aggrieved over no supply of drinking water in the area for the last one week, villagers of Jakhani held a protest demonstration against the PHE authorities.
The protest demonstration was led by Syed Peer Gulzar Shah, who alleged irregular supply of drinking water. The protesting villagers raised slogans against PHE Department and threatened to gherao the concerned authorities.
According to 90- year old Jaat Noori, who was also protesting along with other villagers, there was no water supply to the village for the last seven days with the result that people are forced to drink water from natural sources, about 6 Km away from their village.
Syed Peer Gulzar Shah said that the affected Mohalla of Jakhani comprises of SC, ST, OBC and backward classes communities, who are being deprived of even drinking water. Despite repeated requests to the concerned authorities, nothing has been done to ensure regular supply of water, he lamented.
