JKEEU warns strike from July 8

JAMMU, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Electric Employees Union ( JKEEU) has warned to go on strike from July 8 next month against what it called the anti power employees policies adopted by the Power Development Department (PDD).
This was stated by the Union in a handout issued here, today. The Union accused the Departmental authorities of depriving the employees of their legitimate rights even after holding series of meetings with the authorities from time to time over burning demands. This has resulted into lot of resentment among the employees of PDD and Power Development Corporation (PDC), the statement said, adding the situation has constrained the Union to go for strike for accomplishment of the genuine demands already submitted to the authorities.
The Union said that it has come to know that the Government has again started a process of unbundling of PDD and in this backdrop the Union recalled the attention of the Department towards the meeting held under the chairmanship of Hardesh Kumar Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Power September 24 last year.
The statement said that in the meeting it was assured that in case the Government proposes to go ahead with unbundling of transmission and distribution sectors at a future date, all the stakeholders would be taken on board and all the issues will be discussed threadbare before giving any final shape to such proposal.
The statement further said that the Union being the main stakeholders in this regard would like that Government should share the roadmap and report prepared for unbundling of the Department as it will be discussed threadbare and all its pros and cons are discussed on table before giving any final shape. The Union said that the unbundling is going to affect the future of thousands of employees if not implemented properly.
The Union however has exempted the staff on Amarnath yatra duty form the strike.
