Protest in Kalakote after cattle found dead in truck

RAJOURI, June 28: The people from Sailsui and Kalakote held strong protest after the villagers intercepted a truck smuggling 15 bovine animals to Kashmir and found 7 cattle dead inside the vehicle.
Reports said that some youth turned suspicious after they found truck No. JK14B/ 1154 parked near Sailsui on Kalakote-Rajouiri road. They noticed cattle inside and caught driver at around 11.30 am. His associate however, managed to escape. Many villagers gathered there. They found 15 cattle in the vehicle of which seven were found dead. The mob turned angry and then they beat up the driver.
The police party also arrived there after some time and took the driver into custody. The vehicle was also taken to Kalakote police station. The people then blocked road by raising barricades and started protest against Police. They alleged that this truck came from Jammu as per driver, many police nakas this vehicle crossed in Akhnoor, Sunderbani and Kalakote area but nobody seized the vehicle. They alleged that smuggling of bovines is going on with the connivance of police.
After this Kalakote Bazar was also closed and protest started outside Thana. The people raised anti-police slogans. They demanded action against the cops at naka points in Sunderbani and Kalakote who allowed truck to move ahead. On the assurance of Addl SP and SSP Rajouri, the people lifted dharna at around 4 pm and allowed movement of vehicles. The dead cattle were buried with the help of locals. The police registered a case against driver Mohd Faiz, son of Mohd Sain, resident of Kalakote and started investigation.
