38 bovines rescued, 2 arrested

RAJOURI, July 1: Police foiled two bovine smuggling bids by arresting two smugglers and rescuing 38 bovines from their clutches.
In the wee hours of today, a team of Rajouri police station headed by SHO Ajaz Haider laid a naka at Darhali bridge when three vehicles were seen coming from Kheora to Darhali side. However, drivers of all the three vehicles parked their vehicles on roadside at the starting of Darhali bridge and escaped from the spot.
Sensing the suspicious movement of drivers, police personnel on duty rushed to the spot and put all three vehicles to checking from which 30 bovines were rescued. The three vehicles seized include Mahindra Bolero carriers (JK11B-4669 and JK11B-4694) and one without registration number.
Later, driver of one of the vehicles identified as Rahit Iqbal son of Abdul Majid resident of Behrote Thannamandi was arrested during a raid while drivers of other two vehicles were still absconding and a manhunt was on to nab them.
In this regard, a case FIR number 396/19 under sections 188, 295-A RPC and 3 PCA Act was registered police station Rajouri.
Meanwhile, a team of police station Thannamandi headed by SHO Javed Malik also rescued eight bovines from a vehicle intercepted at Thannamandi police naka. The vehicle was seized and driver arrested while a case under relevant sections of law was also registered in Thannamandi police station.
