JAMMU, July 4: Amid the blowing of Conches and beating of Cymbals, the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was taken out in Jammu.
Thousands of devotees drawn from all walks of life participated in the Rath Yatra, which started from MA Stadium in an impressive ceremony. The pulling of the three chariots Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra- began after performing the Mangala Aarti and other rituals.
Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Sat Sharma, Jammu Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta, besides prominent businessmen and citizens also took part in the Yatra, which was organized by Shree Jagannath Rath Yatra Sewa Sansthan Trust, Jammu.

The people enroute served sweet water and fruits to devotees who participated in the Yatra. The Yatra started from MA Stadium in the afternoon and passed through Vinayak Bazaar, Jewel Chowk, St Peter School, KC Theatre, Maheshpura Chowk, Vishal Mega Mart, Gurdwara Road, Baby Caterer, Rehari Chowk, Subhash Nagar, Toph Sherkhanian, Best Price, BSF Camp Paloura, Patta Bohri, Talab Tillo and culminated at Vikas Lane Auto Stand, late in the evening. The devotees enroute were chanting bhajans and singing songs in praise of Lord Jagannath.
“This Jagannath Rath Yatra is being celebrated for thousands of years in the Holy abode of Shri Jagannath Puri, Odhisa. The pulling of Rath (Cart) during the Rath Yatra procession by the devotees symbolized the attempt of the residents of Vrindavan to bring Krishna, Balarama and Subdhara back to Vrindavan from Kurukshetra”, said Rati Kanta Swain, president, Shree Jagannath Rath Yatra Sewa Sansthan Trust, Jammu. He further added: “It is believed that the devotees who get ‘darshan’ of Lord Jagannath sitting on the Rath get ‘Mukti’ from this life-death circle”.
Briefing about further programme regarding Lord Jagannath Yatra, Swain said that Satsang will be organize daily from today to July 11 from 5 PM to 9 PM and during this time the devotees can perform darshan of Lord Jagannath. He said on July 12 at about 2 PM, the Yatra will be taken out again from Vikas Lane and after pasing through Bee Enn Hospital, Science College and Vinayak Bazaar, it will be finally culminated at MA Stadium.
