1.95 crore houses to be constructed in next 5 yrs, says Sitharaman

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives transformed the lives of the poor of the country and plans so that 1.95 crore houses will be constructed in the next five years.
“As many as 1.95 crore houses will be built for the poor by 2022,” said Ms Sitharaman in her first budget speech in the Lok Sabha.
Prime Minister’s initiatives transformed lives of every rural family, she said and outlined the flagship schemes of the government.
“Schemes such as Bharatmala, Sagarmala and UDAN are bridging rural urban divide and improving transport infrastructure,” Ms Sitharaman said.
A total 30,000 km of roads will be built by green tech, she said, adding that ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’ will upgrade 1.25 lakh km roads at the cost at Rs 80 thousand crore.
She said all villages will have clean cooking facilities.
“Gaon, Gareeb and Kisan (village, poor and farmer) will be focus of our government,” the Minister said.
