JAMMU, July 5: Senior Congress leader and former minister RS Chib has supported the decision of the Government to grant 3 % reservation to the people living along the International Border (IB) but demanded that it should be hiked to 6 %.
While addressing a public meeting at village Bajachak in Suchetgarh today, Chib supported the decision of the Govt for grant of 3 % reservation to the people of International Border, which was a long pending demand of those residing along the 168 kms from Kathua to river Chenab. However, he said that the 3% reservation should be enhanced to 6%, so that the people residing along IB and LoC are equally benefitted.
The meeting was held to mark the 21st martyrdom day of Shaheed Dev Raj Sharma, who sacrificed his life on July 5, 1999 in Kargil war, while fighting the enemy. He said Naik Dev Raj was serving in 5 Granedier Regiment, which took active part in Kargil war.
Chib described Naik Dev Raj Sharma, a brave soldier, who achieved martyrdom, while fighting Pakistan army. He said that the nation is proud of his sacrifice and asked the youth to draw inspiration from his life. Chib also lauded the role of security forces in countering militancy in the State.
Earlier, the officers and jawan of 18 Madras Regt paid floral tributes on the martyr’s Memorial at the village. The prominent among those who spoke and paid tributes included, Madan Sharma (Brother of Nk. Dev Raj ), Gurdyal Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tarsem Lal, Rashpal Singh, all Sarpanchs besides Sarpanchs from Salehar and Kool Kalan.
