JAMMU, July 8: An Army jawan allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in his unit in Miran Sahib area on city outskirts.
“The jawan identified as Sepoy Thammineni Ashok Kumar of Madras Rifles allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in the guard room of the unit during wee hours,” a police official said, adding the Jawan died on the spot.
The official said that the deceased jawan was a native of Parakasam, Andra Pradesh. “No suicide note or any other document was found on the spot while a case has been registered and probe was initiated,” he said, adding, the jawan had joined the Indian Army in December 2017.
“After postmortem, the body was handed over to the Army authorities,” he further added.
