SRINAGAR, July 10: Scores of residents from Malhar Nowpora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today protested against authorities for failing to provide basic facilities in the area.
The residents assembled the office of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and blocked the Pulwama-Shopian road near the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama’s Office for half an hour. The blockage resulted in massive traffic jams in the area. Women and children also participated in the protest.
Agitating residents were demanding to repair the dilapidated road which has become a source of inconveniences for children and elderly people. Besides, they said, the area lacks basic facilities like healthcare, drinking water and education.
While talking to Daily Excelsior, a woman protestor said in absence of basic facilities the residents are facing immense inconveniences, “our area has not received any attention over the years. We lack all the basic facilities including healthcare, drinking water, and a proper road,” she said.
Another resident said that they have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities concerned but their pleas fell on deaf ears, “authorities should at least use blanketing to fill the big potholes. But unfortunately, they are seen nowhere despite repeated public outcry,” he said. He alleged successive governments for ignoring the area.
The residents called off the protest after administration assured redressal of their grievances.
