Youth’s body found hanging, man drowns

RAJOURI, Mar 2: The dead body of a youth was found hanging in his house in Thana Mandi area today while a labourer drowned in the river near Rajouri town last evening.
A police spokesman giving details said the dead body of 34-year-old Mohd Rafeeq, son of Bader Hussain, resident of Bhathian village in Thanna Mandi  area was noticed hanging in the cattle shed this morning. The people raised alarm and then informed police. A Thana Mandi Police party led by SHO Haji Bashir reached the spot and shifted the body to local hospital for postmortem. After performing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
The police revealed that as per family version, Rafeeq was mentally unsound and depressed for the past some time. He had gone to Uttar Pradesh for pilgrimage and had recently returned. The police suspect it as case of suicide but started investigation under section 174 CrPC.
Meanwhile, a young labourer Mohd Zakir, son of  Abdul Rashid, resident of Muradpur in Rajouri drowned  when he was taking bath in the river. He had gone to nearby village Badoon and was involved in the construction work of a house. He along with 4-5 other labourers was returning late evening after finishing slab (roof) work of  the house. They started taking bath in Rajouri river on the way. The other labourers told police and family members that Zakir suddenly slipped into the deep water and drowned.
Today police, locals and even some Army divers made attempts to trace Zakir’s body but they failed. The police has registered a case in this connection and started investigation. They also called other labourers for questioning. The police said that search for the body was still going on down stream. It said possibility of other foul play can not be ruled out.
