Cong devises strategy for Assembly polls

JAMMU, July 14: Former Union Minister and senior All India Congress Committee leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that political uncertainty in J&K has remained the main cause of development deficit in the State during past several years.
Azad, who convened the first crucial Congress meeting at Srinagar today, out of the proposed seven such meets across J&K to make new ground for the party and devise fresh strategy for the forthcoming Assembly elections, said that general public in every Assembly segment has been deprived of the basic facilities. The development works which were started during the Congress-NC regime were abandoned due to political rivalry while several others initiated during just previous regime were facing rough weather under Governor Rule. The public has remained the main sufferer, he added.
The AICC leader said governance is the continuing process and the projects taken in hand for the public welfare by any Government should be continued ahead which ever Government takes over later. He said Centre claims having provided huge funds to J&K during past several years but the said amount has not been properly utilized. Azad claimed that political uncertainty in the State during last over four years has remained the major cause behind the development deficit. He said consistency in the governance is crucial factor for the better growth and development.
Azad stressed for the projection of local public issues at the constituency and block level and said that public feed back over the performance of Governor’s Administration and previous PDP-BJP regime are the vital for making new ground for the party.
He said a popular political Government is soul of democracy. “A Governor Rule can never be its substitute. Many public issues remained unattended during past several years in the State. The burning issues of the people from remote and border remained unaddressed under present Administration. The Congress activists at grass root level must become eyes and ears of the public and should forcefully project these issues, Azad added.
PCC chief, GA Mir told the Excelsior that this was first out of the seven crucial Congress meetings going to be held in J&K by July 30, 2019. He said the meeting which commenced at 11 am at Srinagar today, was chaired by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former J&K Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. The meeting concluded at around 2 pm and after this, Azad left for Delhi.
Mir further disclosed that in today’s meeting former ministers, former legislators, District and Block presidents from 10 Assembly constituencies including five from North and five from South Kashmir participated in the meeting. Next meeting would be held at Jammu, most likely on next Saturday and Sunday. Out of the seven proposed meetings, one meeting will also be held in Ladakh, Mir added.
Replying to a question, the PCC chief said that during three hour meeting, all the concerned former MLAs district and block level heads of the party were listened patiently by Azad. On the basis of the feedback being generated from the ground level workers, the new strategy is being devised to counter propaganda of the ruling party and other rivals. But major thrust is being given by the party to focus on the public issues, which have remained unattended during previous PDP-BJP regime and ignored even under Governor’s Rule. The meeting also thoroughly discussed the organizational affairs and devised renewed strategy to face coming Assembly elections in the State, Mir maintained.
The prominent leaders who attended the meeting included, PCC chief G A Mir, former PCC chief Peerzada Mohd Sayed, Abdul Rashid Dar, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Shuaib Lone, Hilal Ahmed Shah and Haji Farooq Mir. Former Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din from North Kashmir could not attend this meeting due to ailing health condition.
