Chairperson NCTE, KVIC, others meet Malik

SRINAGAR, July 17: A delegation comprising Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, Speaker Legislative Assembly; Shakti Parihar, former Minister and Daleep Singh, former MLA, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today. Vijay Kumar, Advisor to Governor and Dilbagh Singh, DGP were present on the occasion.
The delegation expressed its concern regarding growing threats to the safety and security of people, illegal encroachments on forest land, and incidences of bovine smuggling in the erstwhile Doda region. It demanded strengthening of the security apparatus including Village Defence Committees and provision of mobile bunkers.
Governor assured the delegation due consideration of its demands.
Dr. Satbir Bedi, Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) also met Governor and apprised him about various ongoing initiatives of the NCTE for improving standards of education system throughout the country and challenges being faced in maintaining the standards of teacher education and teacher education institutions in the country.
Governor emphasised the crucial importance of well trained teachers for imparting quality education and urged Dr. Bedi to continue her endeavours in this regard.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) also met Governor and discussed with him about the promotion and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas. They also discussed success of KVIC’s efforts on generating capability and self-reliance amongst the poor contributing towards the establishment of a strong rural community.
Meanwhile, Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir apprised Governor about various issues of academic and administrative importance relating to the Main and Off-site campuses and to-date status of filling up of vacant posts of staff
Governor emphasised high importance of continuous up gradation of teaching methods and achieving tangible outcomes in all the research areas.
Rakesh Jain, Akhil Bharatiya Seh Sanyojak, Paryavaran Gatividhi (RSS) also met Governor and apprised him about the activities being undertaken throughout India to generate awareness for saving trees, water and against use of polythene.
Governor appreciated Jain’s work for preserving the environment and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the movement.
