AKHNOOR, Mar 3: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today inspected the on-going repair and renovation works on Pratap Canal and its tributaries at several places between Akhnoor and Jourian sections.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of works, the Minister directed the engineers to further speed up the pace and accomplish the renovation works on entire stretch of canal and its tributaries, so that the water is released well in time. He also directed for judicious use of funds and maintaining quality standards in execution of works. He also issued instructions to the concerned to remove all kinds of encroachments along the canal and restore its original look.
The Minister was apprised that due to bad weather, the cleanliness work hampered at several places few days back, but after the improvement in the weather the progress is as per schedule. The officers assured the Minister that department would double its efforts to accomplish the work ahead of the schedule.
Superintending Engineer (Hydraulic), Sushil Aima and other officers of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control accompanied the Minister.
Earlier, the Minister addressed a largely attended public meeting at village Malen and highlighted the achievements of the Government. He said during the past over four years, the Government has ensured massive development in all vital sectors with special focus on up-gradation of road connectivity, drinking water, health, education and social welfare. He said Government has formulated a well-tailored programme for the development of rural areas specifically keeping in mind their priorities. The change is visible on ground and people have acknowledged the same.
Asking the people to avail benefits of various Government schemes, the Minister said that Central as well State Governments have launched several people friendly schemes and they must take full advantage of the scenario to improve their living conditions.
Responding to the demands of the locals, the Minister directed the engineers to undertake necessary repairs of all link roads in the area. He also directed them to devise a well thought strategy to meet the drinking water needs in the kandi belt during the summer months. As regard irrigation facilities, the Minister said that the Government has completed the survey process for setting up of 18 irrigation tube-wells in kandi belt. He said shortly the proposal will go to the Central Government for funding.
