SRINAGAR, July 23 : Police today arrested three associates of top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Junaid Shehrai from Srinagar.
Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr Haseeb Mughal told a news conference here that the arrests were made after series of human and technical investigative techniques used by the Police in various militancy incidents in Srinagar.
He identified the arrested trio as Asif Iqbal Dar and Shahid Hassan Dar residents of Soura and Rasheed Lateef Mir resident of Barzulla.
The SSP said that they were involved in firing on an SPO Romaan at Chhanapora in Srinagar and several grenade throwing incidents and other crimes in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
He said that they were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit and were wanted by security forces in a series of militant attacks.
Mughal said that incriminating materials which include ammunition, live rounds were recovered from their possession. Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law in this regard and are investigating the case.
The SSP said that they had history of crime records and were involved in planning and executing several crimes in J&K along with their associates.
He said that during investigation it was learnt that Junaid Shehrai commander of HM was part of the group which carried out these attacks. They were involved in attack on SPO Romaan at Chhanapora on 27-3-2019 in which he sustained injuries besides grenade throwing incidents in Jammu and Srinagar.
And in the meantime, bullet riddled body of a 40-year-old man was recovered in orchards in South Kashmir last night.
Police said that some locals spotted the body lying in the orchards of Wapzan in Bijbehara and informed police about it.
Police reached the spot and recovered the body and took it SDH Bijbehara. The deceased was identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat, 40, son of Late Ghulam Qadir Bhat, a resident of Wopzan- Herpora. He was a farmer by profession.
“After conducting all medico-legal formalities including the postmortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to family for last rites,” Police said.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations initiated to ascertain the incident,” Police said.
