HANDWARA, July 23: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Kupwara penalized an Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing company with a fine of Rs 30000 for violating provisions of Legal Metrology Act/ Rules.
Earlier, a team of LMD headed by the Assistant Controller Kupwara conducted an inspection of a local Ayurvedic medicine shop in Handwara market and found some medicines not bearing consumer care details on them.
Following this, Legal metrology Officer Kupwara registered a case against the company involved in the manufacturing and packing of the medicines. Subsequently, the matter was taken up with the company in question which pleaded guilty of the offence.
Pertinently, Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 makes it mandatory for packaged commodities to bear consumer care details including phone number and email address so that the consumers can approach the manufacturer, packer or importer for redressal of grievances related to the packaged commodities.
