IAF airlifts stranded passengers from Jammu to Leh

Jammu : Indian Air Force sorties today airlifted 264 stranded passengers from Jammu to Leh.
“The IAF came to the assistance of stranded civilian passengers of State yet again at Jammu this morning, when it launched a special IAF aircraft sortie to airlift 264 stranded passengers, from Jammu to Leh, on being requisitioned by the civil administration,” Jammu based PRO Defence Lt Col R K Palta, Ministry of Defence in a statement issued here said.
He said that a giant IL-76 transport aircraft of the IAF was pressed into service to ferry the stranded civilians brethren, mostly hailing from Leh and Kargil districts of the Ladakh region.
“A total of 264 passengers, which included 40 ladies and children were airlifted by the special IAF sortie,” the spokesman said.
He said Air Cmde PE Patange, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jammu and Group Capt Sridhar, the Chief Operations Officer, supervised the smooth conduct of the entire airlift operation.
“During the airlift operation, the personnel of the Air Force Station worked tirelessly, with full support from the civil administration thereby ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of the passengers, without any inconvenience,” he said. (AGENCIES)
