JAMMU, July 27: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) has reiterated their demand of gazetted holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Press Club, Jammu, Surinder Singh Gilli, president of YRS, said that the State Government should take a positive action on the demand of Rajput community to declare the birth anniversary of last Dogra King Maharaja Hari Singh as a State holiday.
He lambasted the BJP leaders of the State for not taking up the issue with the Governor whereas from political parties to civil society and social organizations, everyone wants holiday on September 23 as a mark of respect for the great Dogra ruler. “If former chief minister Sheikh Abdullah’s birth anniversary could be observed as a State holiday, why not of Maharaja’s birthday,” Gilli questioned.
The YRS president said that BJP fought for declaration of Maharaja’s birthday as holiday since 1947 but when they were in Government, they maintained silence on the issue and did nothing. “If this burning demand of the Rajput community is not met, YRS will come on roads and start agitation,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Gilli with consultation of Sabha announced Rajeev Singh Jamwal as City president of YRS.
YRS chairman, Raghuvir Singh also addressed the media and stressed upon the Governor administration to announce State holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
