SHILLONG, Aug 10: Meghalaya Governor, Tathagata Roy, who is also a prolific writer and a veteran politician from Bengal, presented Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh a book on Shayama Prasad Mookerjee, written by him and expressed his happiness over the abrogation of Article 370, when the latter called on him at Raj Bhavan here.
While congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having taken the bold initiative to honour the legacy of Shayama Prasad Mookerjee, Tathagata Roy, who had been active in the politics of West Bengal for several decades and is also the past State BJP President of West Bengal, said that this decision would lead to long term positive outcomes not only for the people of J&K but for the entire country. He also praised Home Minister Amit Shah for his diligent contribution in ensuring the successful revocation of Article 370.
Dr Jitendra Singh informed Tathagata Roy that there is a country – wide jubilation over the abrogation of Article 370, which is confined not only to BJP circles but also among those who are opposed to the BJP ideology but are convinced that the decision to abrogate Article 370 is in tune with the popular sentiment of the people of India. It is for this reason, he said, that most of the political parties across the country, including a section of Congress Party, have come out openly in support of the Modi Government’s decision to revoke Article 370.
Dr Jitendra Singh also shared with the Governor, the details of a series of meetings that he has been holding with different sections of society over the last three days in North East, to explain that there is no correlation between Article 370 and Article 371, which is applicable in parts of the North Eastern region. He flayed the motivated designs of certain vested interests to spread misinformation that Government is contemplating the revocation of Article 371.
