JAMMU, Aug 13: In view of prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley this year’s Navdal festival will not be held at Navdal Tral in South Kashmir district of Pulwama and instead a symbolic religious programme will be held at Geeta Bhawan Muthi here on August 19.
The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Temples & Shrines Prabandhak Committee (TSPC) Tral –Awantipora Kashmir held here, today. It said the annual festival which was scheduled for August 19 at Navdal Tral has been cancelled in view of prevailing situation in the Valley.
The TSPC however decided to hold a symbolic function at Geeta Bhawan Muthi, here. The function will start in the morning on August 19 with Puja –Archana which will be followed by serving of prashad to devotees in the afternoon. It appealed all the devotees to attend the celebrations and pay obeisance to Lord Shiva during the function.
It may be recalled that culmination ceremony of holy Amarnath yatra was traditionally held at Navdal Tral from times immemorial where the devotees after taking a holy dip in the springs were performing pooja of Lord Shiva besides immersing the relics in the spring. A grand mela was held every year on the occasion at the shrine.
The Committee had revived the annual pilgrimage over a decade back which was hit by turmoil for some years.
