1700 cases pending with Backward Classes Commission

JAMMU, Mar 7: Nearly 1700 applications were pending with the State Backward Classes Commission for consideration till today.
Replying to a question of National Conference Legislator Sheikh Ghulam Rasool in the Upper House today, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo said that total 1,694 representations were pending for disposal with the State Commission for Backward Classes.
Refuting allegations that the Commission was not functioning, the Minister said the quorum is complete with two members and a chairman and the Commission is now fully operational.
In order to facilitate early disposal of applications, the Government has recently appointed two members in the Commission and appointment of the remaining members is under process, she added.
