Amara Raja launches EV Battery charging/swapping stations

TIRUPATI, Aug 24: In a bid to promote India’s move towards EV adoption, Amara Raja has launched EV battery charging / swapping stations along with a fleet of e-Autos here on Friday evening.
The initiative is undertaken in collaboration with Tirupati Municipal Corporation, as a part of its smart city program, the Company said in a release here.
The inaugural function was attended by Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner Girisha P.S, Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director H Harinatha Rao and other senior officials of Amara Raja.
The Lithium Ion battery packs and EV battery charging /swapping stations are designed and developed in the state-of-the-art R&D facilities of Amara Raja here.
The company has recently added a Lithium Ion battery pack manufacturing facility of 500 MWH capacity at its Tirupati manufacturing unit.
EV charging infrastructure plays a key role in enabling proliferation of e-mobility in the country and therefore Amara Raja is offering Lithium ion battery packs, charging stations and fleet operation solutions as an end-to-end package to its customers.
Speaking on this occasion, Amara Raja Group Chairman Dr. Ramachandra N Galla, said “Amara Raja is committed to take part in the Government’s initiatives to drive green mobility in the country. Amara Raja is closely watching trends and emerging business opportunities in the arena of electric mobility and has taken concrete steps towards enhancing its R&D capabilities to develop battery packs for electric mobility and EV charging stations.
Dr. Galla thanked Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner for giving Amara Raja the opportunity to collaborate with the Corporation to set up two charging stations and run a fleet of e-Autos in the city.
He also thanked Rashtria Seva Samithi (RASS) an NGO based out of Tirupati for extending their support in arranging women drivers for this fleet, creating self-employment and demonstrating women empowerment.
Mr. Girisha saidt “Tirupati is one of the most visited pilgrim city in the country and it is definitely a crucial step towards transforming it into a green city.
He also said that more such EV charging stations will come up soon in the city and he is talking to the relevant authorities to take this enterprise forward with renewed momentum.
