Vigilance Commissioner calls on Governor

JAMMU, Mar 7: R. K. Jerath, Vigilance Commissioner, State Vigilance Commission, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today.
During their discussions, the Governor stressed the high importance of all required steps being timely taken for ensuring that the functioning of the State Vigilance Commission is placed on a sound footing. The Governor observed that the effective functioning of the SVC would have a vital bearing on the enhancement of accountability and good governance and consequently, eradication of corruption.
This was Mr. Jerath’s first meeting with the Governor after he recently took over as the Vigilance Commissioner. The Governor wished Mr. Jerath a very successful tenure ahead.
Meanwhile, Nazir Bakshi, former President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, called on Mr. Vohra.
Mr. Bakshi thanked the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, for taking a number of initiatives to involve all concerned stakeholders for progressively improving the facilities for the Shri Amarnathji Yatris. In this context, he particularly referred to the requirement of pilgrims securing a Compulsory Health Certificate before applying for issue of Yatra Permit.
Lauding the efforts of the Chairman of the Shrine Board in involving local stakeholders in providing facilities to the yatris, Mr. Bakshi, who has been associated with the travel trade for the past 45 years, said that this has generated tremendous economic benefits to the local population. He also discussed with the Governor the vast potential available for promoting pilgrim tourism in the State, particularly in the Kashmir valley.
