LEH, Aug 28: The two-day Aryan Festival, which was thronged by tourists as well as locals, concluded today at Hanu Yogma.
The festival was inaugurated yesterday by MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgial, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Namgial congratulated the people of Brokpa tribe to celebrate Aryan Festival in UT Ladakh. At the same time, he paid tribute to Nawang, Dorjey and Stobdan who sacrificed their lives on the same date for the cause of UT. He strongly urged the people to remember their supreme sacrifice and the struggle made great leaders from Gyalrhas Bakula Rinpoche to former MP Thupstan Chewang while celebrating any kind of development, prosperity, happiness now and always.
He emphasised on the need to fully understand the concept of UT for Ladakh, especially by educated youth and spread the message of its benefit among others, than just going by rumours. He asserted that for any region to prosper, education and economic growth is important and gave full assurance to support the Brokpa tribe considering their demands submitted to him in a memorandum on the occasion.
The MP also announced to give Rs 2 lakh to the people who have a collection of old religious scriptures, ancient historic books, literatures, statues, artefacts etc for its preservation and to support them in constructing an ice hockey rink for their children.
Jamyang stressed on the need to promote Aryan culture in the rest of the world for which he suggested to form a common registered cultural group to avail the opportunities through Ministry of Culture to showcase their folk song and dance in foreign countries and assured his support to do it.
EC Agriculture, Phuntsog Stanzin also spoke on the occasion and presented a list of demands made by the people of Hanu, Dha and Beema. He stressed on the need to celebrate Aryan Festival for their progress and promotion.
EC, Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, AD Tourism Tsering Angmo, SDM Khaltsi Mutup, 2 IC 5th Battalion, Sikh Regiment Gill Singh, president ALTOA, other district officers, local people and tourists from India and abroad attended the festival.
