Srinagar, Aug 31: Taking strong note of plying of two wheelers by the drivers without helmets, High Court directed the traffic authorities to ensure that the same is not repeated and action be taken against the violators.
Hearing the PIL on plying of smooth traffic in and around the Srinagar city, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar in view of importance of the issue, said the issue deserves to be noted and directed listing of the matter which otherwise was to be heard on September 18.
The bench after information that wearing of helmets by two wheelers is mandatory, however, none of driver while driving two wheelers are wearing the helmets said, there is serious danger of head injury which is life endangering or may result permanent disablement.
“The traffic police is directed to make strictly the matter as much as extremely dangerous consequences result on account of road accident involving”, DB directed.
Court further directed the traffic authorities to ensure that adequate publicity is given to ensure that the police at large is made aware of rules and regulations regarding the road safety as well as the dangerous consequences for failure to comport to the same.
Court directed that the traffic police may devise a proper policy for the purpose of publicizing the requirements as well as taking action for the violation thereof.
