JAMMU, Sept 1: For the first time a French Language Teachers Association of Jammu (FLTAJ) was formed in J&K to give a thrust to propagation of the language and encourage those who are teaching French in different city schools.
Teachers from reputed schools, including Heritage School, KC Public, Jammu Sanskriti, KC Gurukul joined the association and took an oath to give justice to French that is one of the most spoken languages of the world. Members said that the motive behind formation of the association was to propagate French language in the State and to create job avenues for the French learners.
The formation event took place at Press Club of Jammu in which large number of teachers and people from civil society took part.
Meenkashi of Heritage School was appointed as president while Deepti Gupta of Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk was appointed as vice president. Ridhi Mahajan of KC Public School was appointed as general secretary and Tapas Tandon of Global Institute got the role of publicity secretary. Arushi Mahajan of KC Gurukul was appointed as Media Secretary, Deepika Dutta of Jammu Sanskriti School was appointed as Organizing Secretary and Priyanka was appointed as treasurer.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman of Team Jammu, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that formation of association of French language was a positive step for a State like Jammu and Kashmir where people do not get much exposure in regard of foreign languages. He said that the French Language Teachers Association of Jammu will also encourage even speakers of local languages to form such groups that could take these languages forward.
Dr J N Walia, Professor at the Central University of Jammu was the guest of honor. “Language is a tool to express thoughts and ideas. An association for French language will open new avenues and opportunities for people of Jammu who wish to learn a foreign language,” he said.
Sofia Rana, Headmistress, KC Public School, said that by learning a foreign language besides their mother-tongue, brain of students develop at a faster pace. An association that will promote French language in Jammu is a welcome step” she said.
Prominent among those, who were present on the occasion, included Sakshi Gupta, Malvi Gupta, Ujwal Singh Rathore, Harish and Suresh.
