Thrashing of cop in uniform unacceptable: SSP

SAMBA, Sept 3: The strike against the Police by Bar Association Samba entered in fifth day today.
The Bar Association Samba on Tuesday suspended the court work demanding immediate action against the cop who tried to hamper the work of lawyers and withdrawal of FIR against the Samba Bar lodged by Samba police. They alleged that Samba police has registered the false case against the lawyers and the Bar Association demanding immediately transfer of CPO and suspension of constable Gafoor Ahmed who misbehaved with lawyers.
The lawyers alleged that the cop later lodged a fake complaint. They said one constable, Gafoor Ahmed misbehaved with lawyers on August 29, when he came to court with an accused and started pleading for his bail. The unprecedented situation irked the lawyers, who objected to man in uniform defending the accused, which led to arguments and altercation with police and lawyers. Without going into details, police lodged FIR against President of Bar Association Samba and eight other lawyers.
Bar Association Samba president, Subash Singh Sambyal alleged that samba Police has registered fake case against some members of Samba Bar who resented to police highhandedness inside the court premises, impacting the day to day working of the legal fraternity. However, work in Samba Court will remain suspended till issue is solved.
But SSP Samba, Shakti Pathak reiterated that the cop was thrashed by lawyers and police registered the FIR against the culprits responsible for attacking the cop who was performing the Government duty. He said thrashing of police constable in uniform can’t be acceptable to the Police Department.
