Srinagar, Mar 8: Militants this evening shot dead a former militant turned counter-insurgent in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that militants this evening abducted Bashir Ahmad Gania son of Ghulam Nabi Gania of Palhalan Pattan from Chanpora in Kunzar area of Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that Gania was taken to nearby Kunzar nallah and shot thrice in his head by his abductors. Police sources said that Gania was a former militant and had surrendered before security forces and was also working for them.
Sources said that for past 4 years he was running a cosmetic shop in Chanpora Kunzar in Tangmarg area and was also settled there.
Gania’s body was recovered from the bank of Kunzar nallah and was taken to Tangmarg hospital for autopsy. 35-year-old Gania was married with two children.
Militants who were said to be two in number fled after killing Gania. Police have launched a man hunt as Tangmarg was said to be relatively peaceful area in Kashmir valley.
This is the second militant strike in the week as on March 2, two Indian Reserve Police (IRP) men were shot dead by two militants at point blank range in North Kashmir’s Handwara town. Both these IRP men were shot in the head.
