SKUAST-J signs MoU for affiliation of skill development trainings

JAMMU, Sept 4: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) achieved landmark by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI) for affiliation of skill development trainings organized by the University in Jammu region.
Agriculture Skill Council of India was formed in 2013 with a vision of properly skilling personnel in the Agriculture sector by diminishing the gap between labs and farms. ASCI is functioning under the aegis of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Union Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, with a vision to develop the Skills in Indian Agriculture, as per the global standards, with the support of stakeholders.
The MoU was signed by Dr KS Risam, Vice Chancellor (VC) on behalf of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu and Kamal Sodhi, Regional Manager (North) on behalf of Agriculture Skill Council of India.
On the occasion, Kamal Sodhi gave a brief presentation on the mandates and activities carried out by ASCI. He highlighted the need for compulsory affiliation of skill development trainings organized by SKUAST-Jammu in agriculture and allied subjects. He further informed that with the signing of MoU for affiliating skill development trainings, SKUAST-Jammu is now placed among top most national agriculture, horticulture and veterinary institutes.
Dr KS Risam, while speaking on the occasion, emphasized upon the importance of signing the MoU in light of the mandates of SKUAST-Jammu to provide vocational/skill development trainings to rural youth though its KVKs and Directorate of Extension. He reiterated that the signing of MoU will enable University to align all skill development trainings with ASCI developed Qualification Packs as per National Skill Qualification Framework through affiliation of centre and trainers in the University.
All the statutory officers of the University including Dr TAS Ganai, Director Education, Dr Deepak Kher, Director Planning & Monitoring, Dr MMS Zama, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & AH, Dr SEH Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Dr SK Gupta, University Librarian and Iqbal Singh, Executive Engineer, were present during the programme.
