NEW DELHI, Sept 5: Government has sanctioned Rs. 99 crore for a hi-tech set-up in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in the form of Centralized Technology Vertical (CTV), which will become completely operational by next year. The new CTV set-up will have access to all forms of data and provide real time inputs for investigation of complex crimes.
This was announced here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, while addressing the two-day National Conference on “Cyber Crime Investigation and Forensics”, organized by the CBI at their national headquarters.
Dr Jitendra Singh referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thrust on the use of modern technology in every sphere of life. He said, while Modi launched “Digital India” in 2015 to promote optimum utilization of digital technology for development and ease of living, at the same time he also re-defined the apporoach to combat security threats and terrorism with clarity and with a new narrative.
It is a significant coincidence, said Dr Jitendra Singh, that the CBI is organizing this important conference at a time when on the one hand, the cyber crime rate has gone up and India has the highest number of Internet users in the world after China, and, on the other hand, in the post-Article 370 abrogation scenario, there have been recurrent reports of fake news and fake videos being planted through cyber misuse, causing threat to national security.
Dr Jitendra Singh complimented CBI Director, Rishi Kumar Shukla for having organized the first ever conference on this theme. He also referred to recent initiatives by CBI to increase its cyber crime investigation capacity and in this context, referred to the “Cyber Crime Investigation Cell” in CBI and the “Centre for training in Cyber and Hi-tech Crime Investigation” in CBI Academy Ghaziabad. Cyber Forensic Training Centres have been set up by MeitY at Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Kerala, Uttarakhand and all the North Eastern States, he added.
While congratulating CBI for its exemplary track record of high conviction rate in cyber crime, Dr Jitendra Singh emphasised that the crusade against cyber crime must be carried out collectively by other agencies as well, including academia and social organizations.
