People protest, block road in Mendhar

MENDHAR, Mar 9: Some villagers residing on the outskirts of  Mendhar town held protest demonstration and disrupted movement of traffic on Mendhar-Surankote road for about two hours today.
Reports said that there was some land dispute between the families of  Munawar Hussain, Mohd Bashir and Mohd Zabair for the last some time. With the intervention of Deputy Commissioner, a fresh land demarcation was ordered and some Revenue officials were engaged for the purpose.
The team led by a Naib Tehsildar and Girdawar besides two Patwaris were engaged and they pointed out that three kanal of the land out of the dispute belonged to the second party.   The other party also started taking the said land in its possession and also tried to raise a structure there. It irked the first party and they along with their supporters and relatives came out on the road near Govt ITI and started protest demonstration at around 2 pm.
The situation became explosive as both parties indulged in verbal spat. The police party rushed there and tried to control the situation. Later, SDPO Mendhar Amit Bhasin and  Naib Tehsildar Mendhar also reached there and tried to settle the issue. The members from other party demanded fresh demarcation. They also alleged favouritism by the Revenue officials. On assurance of SDPO, dharna was then lifted from the road.
