International Women’s Day observed

JAMMU, Mar 9: International Women’s Day was observed across Jammu province with zeal and enthusiasm.
MCA Department, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu organized a rally followed by an interactive seminar on the eve of International Women’s Day. The function was presided over by incharge HoD MCA Department Sourabh Shastri, who flagged off the rally, in which students and faculty members took part. During seminar, various faculty members presented their views.
Women Development Cell, Government Degree College, Bishnah celebrated International Women’s Day. Dr Suman Charak, Convener, WDC initiated the proceedings of the programme and highlighted the contribution of the female community for the development of the society and the nation. Incharge Principal Prof Vijay Sharma, Prof Hardeep Kour, Prof Archana Bakshi and students also spoke on the occasion.
CDTP Wing of Government Polytechnic for Women organized a seminar on “Women Empowerment” on the eve of International Women Day. The seminar was conducted by Prof Rita Jitender, Member, Advisory Committee of CDTP Scheme of the institution. Prof Kiran Bakshi, Ex-principal, Rajni Sehgal, Superintendent, Kot Bhalwal Jail, Sunita Zailpuri from IMPA, Er Ritu Jamwal, Principal and Er Naresh Gupta, Internal coordinator, CDTP Schemes addressed the gathering on wide range of topic including “Women Empowerment”, “Legal Rights of Women” and “Need of Education for Women Development”.
IECS Polytechnic observed International Women Day, wherein faculty members and Principal spoke about the problems being faced by the women in their day-to-day life in their homes and working places.
New Modern College of Education, Sainik Colony organized a seminar on the topic “Safety of Women” on the eve of International Women’s Day, in which students from various colleges took part. Bharti Vaid, Media Advisor was the chief guest, while Prof Kiran Bakshi, Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar and Veena Handa, Chairperson, Handa College of Education were the guest of honours. Dr Sharda Sharma of Department of History and Dr Ravinder Singh, Department of English, JU were the special guest, while Dr SP Vaid, ADGP, Principal of the host college Prof Siraj-ud-Din Bhat, faculty members and students were also present. In the seminar, Radvi of Handa College, Shazia of Thakur Anant Singh College and Sachin Sharma of Sai Shyam College bagged first, second and third positions respectively, whereas the consolation prizes were conferred to Rupanshi of Adarsh College, Eisha of Government PG College of Education and Renuka of MIER College.
International Women’s Day was observed at District Legal Aid Clinic, Kheora under the guidance of AK Sharma, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority and Principal, District and Session Judge, Rajouri. The programme was aimed to aware the women especially tribal women about their legal rights. Pawan Kapoor, Legal Assistant and AB Shah addressed the gathering and presented detailed information of schemes incorporated for legal aid.
Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local), Jammu organised week-long programmes to commemorate International Women’s Day. Various events were conducted including “Best Home Competition”, and “Cancer Detection Camp”. Mamta Patange, President AFWWA (Local), emphasized the fact that despite the challenges of long working hours, erratic schedules and constant bias in the work field, women are striving very hard and are successfully making a mark everywhere professionally.
Jain Istri Samaj observed International Women’s Day at Surinsar, where hundreds of women participated. Neelam Jain, president of the Sabha was the chief guest, who along with Chandna Jain, Prabha Jain, vice president, Sarita Jain, Sneh Jain, ex-president, Promila Jain, advisor highlighting the importance of the women in the society.
A seminar was organized by Public Peace and Development Foundation in collaboration with Women Empowerment Cell, Government Degree College, Poonch to observe International Women Day. The function was presided over by Prof GL Sharma, Principal, while Prof Mussaraf Hussain Shah was the chief guest and Prof Tajinder Singh was the guest of honour.  The speakers highlighted the importance of the women in the society.
A legal awareness camp was organized to observe International Women’s Day under the chairmanship of Swati Gupta, Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Munsiff, JMIC, Bishnah. While speaking, Swati Gupta apprised the public about the rights of women as provided under various provisions of law.
