Gurezi inaugurates Kissan Mela

KATHUA, Mar 9:  Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture Nazir Ahmed Gurezi today emphasized on dire necessity of introducing the latest technology in all productive sectors like agriculture, horticulture, floriculture and live stock with view to increase the socio- economic conditions of the farming community, adding that this is the only key source to ensure the economic growth of the State in general and farming community in particular.
This was stated by the Minister after inaugurating the Kissan Mela held at Basohli today. The Mela was organized by J&K State Kissan Advisory Board in collaboration with Department of Agriculture.
He said that all the productive fields have been prioritized by the Government and sufficient funds have been earmarked for the development of these sectors during commencing fiscal. He said that Govt. was committed to upgrade the life style of the farmers by providing fertilizers, hi-yielding variety seeds, machinery, tools, medicines and pesticides on subsidized rates. He said more importantly technical expertise is being provided to the farmers through various modes of channels of communication and said that organizing of Kissan Mela in rural areas of the state is one of the available mode to educate the farmers.
Earlier, Mr. Gurezi went round the various stalls demonstrating modern machinery equipments, implements, tools, pesticides of various brands and their usage. He took keen interest in observing the usage of the modern equipment.
Vice Chairman J&K, Kissan Advisory Board Radhey Sham said that Government has launched several welfare schemes with the aim to upgrade the socio-economic conditions of the people. He appealed the people to come forward and take benefit of these schemes.
Referring to the Budget recently presented by the Government in Legislative Assembly, the Vice Chairman described it as farmer friendly budget, adding that sufficient funds has been earmarked for agriculture, sheep, animal and floriculture sectors during commencing fiscal.
MLA Basohli Jagdish Raj Sapolia, District Development Commissioner Kathua, Zahida Parveen Khan also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements of the Government in Agri sector.
Later, the Minister distributed the Kissan Credit Cards and subsidy cheques to the farmers.
